Samsung has finally announced its latest Android tablet, Galaxy Note 8.0. It was much awaited and rumored. Company unveiled it at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Note 8 is exceedingly comfortable to hold, though its plastic body doesn't have the solid feel of iPad Mini, Nexus 7, and Kindle Fire HD. The bezel is larger than the iPad Mini's by a good amount.
Galaxy Note 8.0 is equipped with an 8-inch 1280 x 800-pixel display, Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, Exynos quad-core 1.6GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot for adding up to 64GB of additional storage and a 4,600mAh battery. Galaxy Note 8.0 is capable of making phone calls too, so it's a good competitor to iPad mini and Nexus 7 as none of them support phone calls.
Samsung’s S Pen stylus has been upgraded to work both on the touchscreen of the Note 8.0 as well as with the physical navigation buttons, and Samsung is also extending the functionality of the pen in other ways. Samsung has also upgraded it's Air View feature which allows users to view previews by hovering stylus over the device, without touching it. Now it is also supported by third party apps, and +Flipboard is first to use it. You can select and expand a tile by hovering the pen over a selection.
In keeping with its portrait oriented design, the Note 8.0 also incorporates what the company calls "reading mode," effectively optimizing the slate's display for comfortable e-book use.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 will be available world wide (Europe, Korea, North America, S.E. Asia, S. W. Africa, the Middle East, China, Taiwan, and Latin America) in Q2. Availability and pricing in the U.S. has not yet been announced.
